This is an article to all those newer internet marketers that are thinking about giving up. Whenever you begin trying to make money online and find that the competition is overwhelming you will get the sick feeling in the bottom of your stomach telling you to give up. This is the only reason that people fail online and I mean the only reason. website marketing is a long process that needs to be thought of as putting money in the bank. For the first 6 months you are playing catch up with all the sites that have been around for years and have been doing exactly what you are trying to do. Now what most people do not understand is once someone reaches a decent SERPs position using intense marketing they will either stop or slow way down on their promotional campaign. This gives you the chance to build momentum and overtake them hopefully without them even seeing you rise within the SERPs.

Now if you want to really get to the top page of the SERPs for even moderately competitive keywords you must be willing to spend at least four hours daily using every marketing medium at your disposal. The majority are free and will give you the chance to place a free link without be chastised. Free directories come to mind and to find a list all you need to do is ask Google or search for directory critic which has lists of thousands upon thousands of directories. Ninety percent of the directories online allow you to submit a link for free and without a reciprocal link. There are also niche directories out their allowing you to not only gain a free one way link, but a relevant link these are a must when trying to gain rank within the SERPs. Social bookmarking websites such as digg.com are another source of free one way links and if you have built a website or blog worth anything you will receive a decent amount of referral traffic from these bookmarking sites as well.

With all forms of internet marketing you also must realize that you must give time before the backlinks to be counted and in the extreme cases such as dmoz.com it can take years before your website is added and Google finds your backlink. So as you submit to hundreds of websites and write article after article submitting to all the major article directories remember not only do you have to wait for the webmaster or blogger to look at your submission and/or site, but you need to give time for the Google bot to find the backlinks which you have put on the web. Now the reason this takes time is there is only one Google bot searching over a trillion links and even though it is fast it still takes quite a while to crawl all of those links. If you are really interested in making enough money to work from home then you will need to put in at least two thousand hours or a year of 40 hours a week and by that time you should have been able to catch up with any website in your niche.
